I care very little about collecting Vocaloid merch. I don't really want any of it strongly enough to be willing to pay import prices. What I do love, though, is ALBUMS! There's something really beautiful about being able to physically own songs that are super important to me. I have them in my hands...... I can listen to them on my shitty little CD player... I can display them on my shelves.. It's amazing!!
I don't own too many, but the ones I own are all important & special to me.
the fantastic diagram of futuristic playdreams - sasakure.UK, 2013
acquired: april 2025
favourites: Spider-Thread Monopoly, Patchwork Eden, Mr. Wonderland, Question You 100
sasakure.UKs 3rd album, and potentially my favourite album of all time, my most listened to album of all time, just one of the most important albums to me ever. Every song is amazing. I don't even really know what to say, because this album is just so good. It means a lot to me. I can't recommend it enough. My favourites are different from the ones I would give if asked in 2021, mostly because this was the only album I listened to for the entire month of February that year and I've kind of overplayed Negaposi*Continues at this point...
It's been my dream to own this album for years, and I actually found the Limited Edition version at Tower Records Shibuya!!!!! Potentially the most excited I have ever been in my life. The Limited Edition version is absolutely beautiful, it includes illustrations for every song on the album as well as a short comic for Anti-Gravities. It is my newest prized possession............
Fukashigi Monoyukasy - sasakure.UK, 2015
acquired: april 2025
favourites: Pinboke Wonder-World Peace, A Millenium and The Spiral, For Things That Fall, A (ma) YAKASHI Monoganasy
Sasakure.UK is one of my favourite vocaloid producers of all time. If you asked me to rank his albums I probably wouldn't be able to. I don't really know where I'd put this one. It's not my favourite, but it's up there. It's an amazing album. This album has more human vocalists than vocaloids on it, but it's a sasakure.UK album, so it goes here. My favourites are all the human vocal songs, lol. I like the wide range of vocals. This album has songs with IA and UTAU Teto on it!!!
The album booklet has some beautiful illustrations of the characters from the album, which I believe were part of a story sasakure.UK was working on at the time...? I'm unfortunately not sure of the exact details, but a lot of the characters were designed by him.
My favourite part of this album is that it came with a little paper advertising the Weekend is Coming novel, it even has a link to the website that no longer exists on it. It feels like a piece of history... and it's the novel for my favourite vocaloid song, so I'm really happy to have something physical of it considering I don't own the album it's from.
WEATHER STATION - inabakumori, 2022
favourites: lagtrain, kimi ni kaikisen, rainy boots, radar
acquired: April 2025
Inabakumori's second album, definitely has more of his iconic hits (Lagtrain, Hello Marina, Rainy Boots..). You can really see how his style has improved/developed compared to his first album (though I love love love Anticyclone as well...).
This one has a really unique design in the packaging, I really love how it looks. Though, the cover of the album not being plastic always worries me. What if I get it wet, or dirty, and I can't clean it....
HUMAN - pinocchioP, 2016
favourites: Usora Sera, Everything About Animals, Deracine, Rotten Heresy and Chocolate - HUMAN ver.
Acquired: Christmas 2016!
This was the first PinocchioP album I actively paid attention too when it was announced. I asked for it for Christmas when I was 14. This was almost 10 years ago. That makes me a little nauseous.
And maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but this is by far my favourite PinocchioP album. It's just so unique to me, his sound from around this time was so special. I absolutely love how he sings alongside Miku in so many of these songs, and I love how he's the main vocal in some of the album exclusives (Usora Sera, Deracine) and Miku just kind of helps out. It's a really cohesive album- all the songs just fit together really well. I'm not allowed to listen to I'm Glad You're Evil Too.
I specifically got the limited edition version of this album, which came with an extra CD, but I think it only had an extra remix or two?? It was included in a plastic bag, and not in the album case itself, which is not my favourite, but it's like 2 songs, so whatever, really.
ZERO-GO - pinocchioP, 2019
favourites: What's Inside, Nobody Makes Sense, Zero, I.Q
My second favourite PinoP album... This one also released at a very critical point in my life (being 16 years old). Has a lot of my favourite songs of all time mixed in with a couple songs I never think about. And the songs I don't think about aren't bad at all, they just aren't as standout. What is (Rotten)Apple Dot Com. Why is (Rotten) Apple Dot Com? How is that on the same album as Nobody Makes Sense. The lyrics of every song on this album are really meaningful to me though. PinocchioP is really good at that.
I'm gonna reach zero and see you again!
On The Eighth Day, Before the Rain Stops - suzumu, 2015
Acquired: June 2025
Favourites: Heart Connect, Indulging: Idol Syndrome, Sincerity Nature: Drastic Measures of Ignorance
suzumu's first and only Vocaloid album. He's a producer no one mentions at all anymore, even though he worked with prolific artists like Giga, Kemu, and Mafumafu. This is because in 2015 he admitted to plagiarizing/ghostwriting a bunch of his works (most notably from Mafumafu(allegedly)) and exited the Vocaloid scene forever. Oops!
Despite not liking the guy at all, I can not help but be incredibly interested in what was his Vocaloid career. Firstly: He was one of my favourite producers prior to his sudden exit. He also had a prominent role in two of my favourite Vocaloid series, Pandora Voxx and Shuuen No Shiori, and he was working on his own series, (which included this album and basically nothing else) that I was also interested in it at the time, despite that it had nothing else. So, basically: it's a lot of useless nostalgia for being 12 years old during the peak of Vocaloid series.
I bought this album back in 2025 because I loved it when I was 13 and I wanted to reward myself for quitting my job. The copy I own now used to belong to some sort of album-borrowing store, or something. I suppose they decided it was not really needed anymore, because who is going to borrow this 10 year old Vocaloid album by a producer no one cares about that is also not good? ME!
suzumu's music was(/still is.) pretty messy, when he wasn't stealing it from others. Songs like Existence and Humanity Five Minutes Before the Hypothesis are messy and loud and honestly I would argue the latter song is just Bad. THAT BEING SAID: Heart Connect is quite possibly one of my favourite Vocaloid songs ever. This could be because everyone says it is basically just a kemu song. Maybe it is a kemu song. Whatever it is: It's amazing. Unfortunately. The rest of the album is FINE, but it's bad. It's the epitome of shitty 2012-14 vocarock.
PANDORA VOXX -REBOOT- - kemu, 2013
favourites: Genius Singer, Mediocre Singer, Reincarnation, Life Cheating Game
acquired: Christmas 2015
This was my first ever Vocaloid album. I got it when I was 13. Though technically, it is not a Vocaloid album, as the only Vocaloids are in the bonus CD. It's all of Kemu's songs (at the time), covered by (at the time) popular utaites. Mostly? There's a couple of utaites on here I had never heard of, and a few that barely exist outside of this album.
This is one of the best albums ever made. This is where all Vocaloid-related music peaked, with this specific cover of Reincarnation. We have been chasing this sort of artistic mastery ever since, and we haven't yet reached it again.
Also, the instrumental break pieces on this album are amazing- I have always loved Daze and platform, but I have a soft spot for Intersection especially, because it was the song the album crossfade video starts with, and I used to watch that video on repeat just to listen to all the previews before I owned the album. I was obsessed with Pandora Voxx. I could not express the extent of my love for this album with all of the words in the world.
Unfortunately, the bonus CD is rather bad, as I've mentioned on my Pandora Voxx page. The suzumu remixes are just not good, but this is not the time to talk about suzumu.
Films, Sunny Spots, Graduations - iyowa, 2024
favourites: Create-girl, Actress, Babel
This was definitely my most impulsive purchase at Tower Records Shibuya. I only knew about half the songs on it, and I don't actively follow Iyowa's releases. I saw it, thought "That's the album with Create-girl!!!", and bought it. There's just something about being surrounded by physical vocaloid albums that makes you make unwise financial decisions. And I like Create-girl that much. His discography is very hit or miss with me, but I like his style. And as it turns out, I really like this album. There's some songs I'm not too big on, but the album is so long(24 songs?!?!?) that there's still so much to enjoy. And some of the songs on this album are up there for my favourite vsynth songs ever, so I think it vastly outweights the bad.
While there's a lot of Miku on this album, there's an impressive number of other vsynths on it as well. KLY alone has 12!! I especially love how he uses RIME on Leave You on the Back of the Earth, Babel was one of the first synthV Teto original songs, and most people know Adachi Rei thanks to Heat Abnormal. Iyowas vsynth range is unparalleled. I don't really like how he tunes Rin or Kafu, but that's okay.
While Create-girl is probably my favourite song from this album, BABEL is absolutely a close second. It's just one of those songs that released at just the right time in my life (turning 21). I recently started enjoying Catfight and Actress as well. SynthV is amazing.
MACHINA MORI - various artists, 2025
acquired: um.. 2025
favourites: SMILE_OF_ABSOLUTE_DERANGEMENT, EDEN 4164616D, Positive Result,
This is the only english Vocaloid album I own (currently...). I am an Adachi Rei superfan, so when I heard there was an english Rei album being organized, I was excited!! I was pretty out of the loop on the english Vocaloid producer community, I only recognized 2 producer names on the album (one of them being the only jp producer on the album..), but when the album released online I was immediately obsessed. It was the only thing I listened to for like, a week. I had to own it physically.
Despite all the different producers, it all blends together so well. It just has such good sounds. I love electronic music. Adachi Rei can be hard to understand at times, but I have used Adachi Rei before. I don't know how people are able to make her sound good. Even having her in English at all is amazing. In UTAU???
I really feel like the songs on this album deserve more attention. I know both english Vocaloid(outside of the main most popular producers) and Adachi Rei are relatively niche, but man some of these songs are the best vsynth songs I've heard period. I can't recommend it enough.
